Signs of the Times — Bernd Trasberger

Signs of the Times is a permanent public art commission for Darley Street Market in Bradford city centre, made with Berlin-based artist Bernd Trasberger. Raven Staging worked directly with Bernd to fabricate and install two artworks.

Trasberger's practice centres on architecture and public space, often re-using and re-contextualising salvaged building fragments. The material here was rescued from the Kirkgate Centre before its demolition: ceramic relief tile panels made by the Transform Ceramic Company under Fritz Stella's patent, and the building's original exterior market lettering.

These became two works — a set of planters clad in the reclaimed tiles, and a back-lit, crossword-style light piece using the salvaged lettering — both installed in the new Darley Street Market. All fabrication was carried out by Raven Staging. The project was funded by Bradford Council, Bradford 2025, and the Henry Moore Foundation.
